PROGRAMME
JSA’s internship programme is designed to facilitate budding legal professionals to apply, test and further hone their legal knowledge, skills and legal acumen, acquired through their academic rigour in the law school, within the professional environment of a law firm. JSA Internship programme that the interns are exposed to different practice areas and work on a wide variety of legal issues. Scope of work for the interns in the firm ranges from basic legal research, preparing case notes, drafting research memorandum/case brief to assisting the lawyers in the courtroom preparations and transactions. A structured internship programme detailing out interns’ roles and responsibilities, deliverables and timelines shall be strictly adhered for maximising the benefits of the Internship programme.

In a nutshell, the internship programme at the firm intends to:
 
  1. Provide guided exposure to the Intern to life of an attorney at work within a law firm: the work and challenges
  2. Provide practical knowledge of the various practice areas
  3. Provide opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge and gain practical experience in the environment of a law firm
  4. Provide exposure to the substantial value-addition of working in a team
  5. Provide intrinsic learning to hone and develop softer skill-sets including cognitive skills, internal and external relationship management, for their holistic personality development, in order to emerge as a future day successful lawyer
 
What does a JSA internship involve?
 
  • Intakes occur round the year.
  • Standard internships at the firm can vary from 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Our interns usually work on tasks and projects, under direct supervision of the firm’s attorneys, 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. However, exigencies of law practice do demand longer hours from time to time.
  • We in JSA strongly believe in dignity of work and interns from Indian law schools are paid a fixed weekly stipend.
 
Finale
 
Upon joining, an intern has to fill an “Entry Interview” form. This, along with an exit interview towards the end of the internship period reflects on certain qualitative parameters as described below:
  • Impact of the intenship programme on her/his learning
  • Qualitative comments on the internship process
  • Reflections on the internal systems and processes within JSA
  • Commitment, integrity and honesty
  • Suitability for further internship stint in the firm and/ or potential future relationship with firm as an associate.
